Happy Belated 4th Buzzaversary to...Me! :O
Wow! I can't believe I've been on buzznet since 2008. I can safely say that I grew up on here, and was able to deal with (and continue to deal with) the horrors, pain, laughter, and memories of adolescence with so many people I can call friends on this website. I've grown so much as a writer, photographer, and now as a design student in Seattle!
I'm sad that I'm not at active as I used to be, but once I find a balance in my new life on my own, I'll be able to fit buzznet back into my every day social life. But Im trying! I promise :)

Half of My Heart (Chapter 7)

“John, stop it!” Hayley screeched, shielding her face with her hands as John playfully dangled a worm in front of her. John couldn’t help but grin ear to ear. Her obvious annoyance of it was too much for John to resist.
Her laughter was like music to his ears. She attempted to kick him so he would cut it out, but that only resulted in the small fishing boat rocking back and forth violently.
The past two weeks had flown by as if they were merely hours; as if they had been friends their whole lives. John had woken Hayley up an hour before dawn to go fishing on the lake. After some pestering and whining, she finally got up. She put no effort into getting ready other than tying her hair up and slipping on a pair of worn overalls.
They hadnt had much luck in catching the fish though. They had already been out for most of the day and John had decided to liven things up and tease Hayley a bit.
“Don’t you want a snack, Hayley? Mmmm anchovies,” he teased, dangling the smelly fish even closer to her face.
Hayley squealed, immediately waving her arms and legs out in front of her frantically, making John laugh even more. “John, puh-leeeeeeeaaaaasssseee!” she begged, making John finally cave.
As he pulled away and moved to sit back down, the toe of his boot caught on the handle of the bucket, causing him to sprawl forward, his body tumbling out of the boat and into the water.
Hayley clamped a hand over her mouth in an attempt to keep from squealing in shock. She carefully leaned over the side of the boat just as John resurfraced from the clear, chilly water. He spat out a moutful of water and wiped his hair out of his eyes looking at her with with a mischevious look slowly turning into a crooked grin, swimming closer to the boat.
Sensing what he intended to do, Hayley froze. “John, no.” She shook her head. As he reached to grasp her wrist. All he had to do was pull her forward just enough to tip the boat and have her fly into the water. He simply flashed her a wicked grin and pulled. Hard. He closed his eyes and heard her scream, followed by being sprayed with water as she crashed into the water.
When Hayley resurfaced in a fit of sputtering and heavy breathing , her red hair clinging to her face, John couldn’t contain his laughter.
“It’s not funny!” she stammered, her teeth chattering from the cold water. She splashed John as much as she could as an outlet for her anger.
“Quit it!” John squealed in a high-pitched tone, splashing her back. Once their laughter had ceased, John made his way to the side of the boat, using his upper-body strength to pull his body back into the boat. He reached out to help Hayley out of the water. “I think we can call it a day,” John decided, earning an eyeroll and a chuckle from Hayley.
Hayley tossed him a paddle, “Move your lazy bones and help me row back,”

“So much for a fish dinner,” Hayley giggled, taking another bite of cheese pizza. Since they had lost all of their fish when they were knocked out of the boat, they retreated back to the house, ordered a pizza and curled up in dry clothes by the fire.
“You have to admit, Domino’s is a great alternative,” he said as he went to grab another slice.
Hayley set aside her plate and curled the blanket even tighter around her tiny frame. “How come you know so much about me, and I barely know enough about you?”
John smirked as he chewed another bite of his pizza, swallowing and taking a sip of beer before he answered. “What do you want to know?”
Hayley eyed him studiously, “Whats the real reason why you chose to rent out my mom’s cabin?”
John raised his eyebrows instinctively, his mouth curling into his signature grin. “I came here to paint and get some inspiration. I told you that the night you hit me with the hair dryer,” he pointed out, taking another swig of his beer.
Hayley rolled her eyes. “Oh, get over it.” She scoffed. “Come on, I poured out my life story to you, and yours cant be that plain and simple. I know you are hiding something.” She jabbed again, almost sounding like it was an interrogation.
John set down his beer and locked eyes with her, his face as serious as stone. “I did the same thing you did. I wanted to get away.” He said quietly, almost in a monotone voice.
“Hold that thought,” Hayley ordered holding up her index finger. She got up and wrapped the blanket around her body, waddling to the kitchen and bringing back a box of Captain Crunch cereal she found in the cuppard. “I’m listening,” Hayley told him softly, watching his expressions.
“I had put in an ad for models for a series of paintings I was doing while living in New York. The first girl that showed up at my loft knocked me off my feet. I mean, wow. She was gorgeous. I never thought she would go for a guy like me, but she said yes when I asked her out. One date turned into many dates and we became a couple.”
“So what happened?” She asked, popping a piece of dry Capn Crunch into her mouth.
John looked down and ran a hand through his disheveled hair. “After two years, I asked her to marry me,” he trailed off swallowing hard. “We spent months planning her perfect wedding, and when it was time to take the wedding pictures on our wedding day, I found her making out with my best friend from high school. They had been having an affair for over 8 months. She left on our honeymoon with him and I signed the papers, making our marriage annuled.” His voice got very quiet, fiddling with the tassles on the knitted afghan.
“I’m so sorry, John.” Hayley whispered sincerely, her eyebrows furrowed with concern. As she continued to study his face, she could see that his last wall had been broken down. Here he was, fragile and completely vulnerable….and broken.
And to her surprise, she heard him chuckle. “What?” she asked curiously.
He looked up at her with a smirk. “I should have saw the signs a long time before that. They were right in front of me, telling me she wasn’t the one. I didn’t want to listen.”
“Like what?”
He looked down at the cereal in her hand, and looked up at her innocent face, her green eyes lit up by the light from the fireplace. “She hated Capn Crunch.” his mouth curled into his signature grin.
Hayley blinked, her whole body freezing, as if she was paralyzed. And then she did something that she never would have ever done since meeting John and staying at the cabin. She leaned in closer until her face was a mere inch away from his, running her slender fingers down his hairline. She kissed him.
And what surprised her more was that he kissed back.
